Configure RAND/UCLA appropriateness analysis

Use a nine-point rating scale and review the selected agreement and disagreement definitions.

Screenshots from the original Surveylet guide illustrate the controls below. Layouts and labels may vary with your survey configuration. Select an image or “View full size” to open it in a new tab.

Enable the method

Open Survey Settings → Consensus and enable RAND/UCLA Appropriateness Method (RAM). The documented calculation requires nine-point Likert-scale ratings. Verify the scale structure in every relevant question or matrix column.

RAM uses its own agreement and appropriateness settings. Do not assume that ordinary range-consensus settings continue to govern the decision when RAM is enabled.

Review the configuration

  • Select the Definition of Agreement and Definition of Disagreement matching your protocol.
  • Review any parameters for low or high extremes, or ratings in the lowest and highest ranges.
  • Distinguish counts from percentages: enter the percent sign when the setting expects a percentage.
  • Enable the required RAM statistics before collecting data.
  • Test known rating distributions, including polarized patterns.

Review RAM outputs

Depending on the configuration, available measures include IPR, IPRAS, IPRCP, asymmetry index (AI), lower and upper IPR limits, Agreement, and Appropriateness. Interpret them using the RAM procedure your study selected, rather than treating the output as a simple percentage-agreement rule.

For method context, see RAND/UCLA Method. Keep the chosen definitions and test examples with the study protocol and analysis records.
