Configure required answers, comments, and feedback

Review the options that control question behavior, analytics visibility, consensus, and progress.

Screenshots from the original Surveylet guide illustrate the controls below. Layouts and labels may vary with your survey configuration. Select an image or “View full size” to open it in a new tab.

Open question settings

Use the question’s menu in Design Survey to open Question Settings. Available fields vary by question type. For matrices, many response and consensus options are configured at column level.

Comments and non-ratings

Enable My Comment when reasoning is useful. You can change its label and require comments for particular choices. Explain that requirement next to the scale so participants understand validation messages.

The virtual “I don’t know” option appears at runtime and in preview. It lets a person indicate they cannot rate the item without adding another scored scale point. Its label can be customized. Distinguish this from a manually created choice that merely has the same name.

Progress and feedback

Optional questions, hidden items, and branching can make a progress bar confusing if those inputs remain included in its denominator. Review Include in Progress and test all paths.

Analytics are normally shown after the participant answers and saves, subject to the minimum-answer threshold and display permissions. The threshold applies to the question’s answers, not the number of people invited or the number of round snapshots.

Common questions

Can I hide an item without deleting its data?

Use Visibility → Hidden when the aim is to remove it from the participant’s view. Deleting a question is a different operation that can ultimately remove answers.

Why does a comment become required only after a particular selection?

The chosen option may have a required-comment flag. Check the choice settings and explain the requirement in the question instructions.
